What our Customers Say

The on-going and wide variety of resources provided by Illinois BIS is greatly appreciated by Contour Machining, Inc. and we are planning to continue to utilize the programs offered by Illinois BIS. The opportunity of utilizing the Illinois Grant Funding program was an added financial benefit.

Margaret Kozlowski Contour Machining, Inc.

I am writing to express my appreciation for the significant and valuable benefit Illinois BIS has provided our organization. For many years we have relied on BIS as our “go to” for employee training, ISO auditing and consulting. Our initial engagement with BIS many years ago was for support and consultation on our ISO programs. The results, as verified by our successful certification audits and the positive comments from those auditors have been excellent.

Our team has benefitted from the high quality training programs offered by BIS allowing us to significantly grow our business over that last 10 years. Some of the training courses we have attended:

  • Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Internal Auditing for Management Systems
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Failure modes and effects analysis
  • ISO 9001:2015 preview
  • RoHS 2 & Reach

The Internal Auditing and ISO 9001:2015 preview courses taught by John Pop saved us thousands of dollars in outside consultation fees by providing the knowledge to successfully complete two management system transitions. Both our quality and environmental management systems transitioned to the 2015 ISO standards with zero non-conformities found during audit.

The knowledge gained from the Six Sigma green belt, root cause analysis, and FMEA courses continues to provide guidance when implementing corrective actions and assessing risk within our organization.

In a time where significant competition and training offerings exist, identifying a best fit, most qualified, high value partner can be difficult. BIS stands apart from the crowd as the best resource and value in this space. They are true professionals and will continue to be part of our overall business planning and growth strategies.

Joe Giovanatto President, Technical Power Systems, Inc.

It is without reservation that I can recommend the services that BIS has provided to our company, Valid, with our lean implementation. We utilized BIS to provide training to our team on lean methodologies and leadership skills. The partnership from BIS ahead of the training was tremendous as they listened, coached and advised a program that not only met the needs of our organization, but for our individual participants. Be it the training material, the presentations, or the trainer himself, Michael Pop, all were outstanding. The piece that was the most impactful was that he truly taught my team “to see” and to probe for answers through their actions and questions. Michael was not only patient in this process, but truly committed to the success of the program. We are a better organization thanks to BIS.

Anne Markle VP of Manufacturing, Valid

We have been using BIS for training and audit services since 2005, and I have to say it has transformed the way we do business.

BIS has provided employee training and development for our entire staff, including top level management.

With the ever changing requirements of our customers and industry, we have found a trusted partner in BIS that is constantly ahead of these demands. We will continue to utilize the expertise and experience brought by the team of instructors.

Barbara Lubiencki Quality Manager, Fasco Inc.

If you’re looking for training in Auditing Core Tools, Root Cause Analysis, or IATF internal auditor training and practice audits, look no further than Illinois BIS and Charles Liedtke. Our internal auditors and corrective action team were amazed at the amount of knowledge they gained from Charles, and Management, they couldn’t be happier in the results they’ve seen in the internal audits and corrective actions carried out since. In 20+ years working with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 trainers we’ve never seen this level of knowledge and confidence in our trainees in such a short period of time. Thank you Charles, and you WILL hear from us again!

Phyllis Beam Compliance Manager, The Morey Corporation

I would like to thank you for the great training that my staff and I received from you. As you know resources are shrinking everyday and leaders have to make difficult decisions. During my time as a State Deputy Director over a large department it was my responsibility to ensure that we were good stewards of the taxpayers money. Over 70% of my staff completed the Lean training and it was truly value added for my staff. A couple of my staff decided to go further and take the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt which was also rewarding.

I am in a new position as the Quality VP of a large health system and I have again started sending staff your way for this essential training. We appreciate your style and the ability to see how this training has helped improved our process.

Brenda Jones DHSc, MSN, WHNP-BC, CCHC, LSSGB Quality VP of a large health system

We originally began working with Charles Liedtke to complete a corrective action report for one of our customers. We were impressed by the level of detail and organization that he brought to our investigation, and realized that he would be a strong asset for our ISO9001:2015 and AS9100 2016 upgrade preparations. Faced with a tight deadline, Charles guided us through each phase of our transition, from an initial gap analysis to a final round of internal audits to the new standards. With Charles' help, we were able to pass our ISO and AS upgrade audits without any findings. We would highly recommend Illinois BIS for any company looking to take their quality system to the next level.

Savannah Schaffer Quality Manager, Rockford ID Shop, Inc.

We completed the ISO/IATF S audit and everything went well. We've come a long way since we began the transition and you have a been a great help. We appreciate all that you have done and spending time with us to make sure we were getting everything ready for our audit.

Edward Minaya Atlas Wire Corporation

We could not have made this transition go as smoothly as it did without the help of Illinois BIS and their full-time consultant, Charles Liedtke. Since I have worked at Wiegel for 28 years and as a member of the quality department for 22, I’ve been able to see our company grow as a result of having good quality systems put into place. Because we had a very aggressive time table to transition to the new International Standard, Wiegel Tool Works used the services of Illinois BIS’ Senior Consultant Charles Liedtke to assist us with the change. With Charles’ help, we reviewed our entire ISO/TS 16949:2009 system and together wrote the guidelines for our new IATF 16949:2016 quality manual, which achieved a 70% improvement change in our quality system. Charles also reviewed and provided recommendations for updates to our ISO:14001 system and helped us integrate the two systems into one. Not only did Charles help with the system modifications and the system integration, but Charles also trained our internal auditors and helped us complete the first round of internal audits. Wiegel Tool Works, highly recommends Illinois BIS for any manufacturer’s ISO or IATF 16949 training and consulting needs.

Randy Hughes Quality Director, Wiegel Tool Works

I am writing in support of Illinois BIS.  Mary Rose Hennessy and her outstanding team have made, and continue to make transformational contributions to companies all over Illinois.  At such a tumultuous time in our nation’s and state’s history, I can think of no better resource for companies to turn to for guidance on how best to survive, compete and prosper in today’s business environment.

Over the years, Illinois BIS has represented Illinois business interests over a myriad of key issues that have had the potential to hurt the competitiveness of Illinois businesses.  Their ability to network and collaborate with business and governmental leaders has helped to provide critical input into policies under consideration.

As a business owner and leader, I can go on and on with the exceptional results we have experienced with Illinois BIS.  Gold Eagle is a privately held family business that has been in existence for 77 years.  We are a mid-sized manufacturer and marketer of additives that help the performance of engines.  Starting in 1990, when Gold Eagle was struggling with strategic questions and less than optimal processes, the results we generated were far less than our potential.  We were fortunate enough to meet Mary Rose and the rest is history!

The following is an outline of training subjects/growth initiatives, listed in chronological order, that provides special insight into the evolution and transformation that Illinois BIS has helped to instigate at Gold Eagle through their training and assistance:

  • Executive Team Building
  • Creating a Culture of Continuous Improvement
  • Management Training for Supervisors and Executives
  • Importance of, and Participation on, Corporate Advisory Board (continues today)
  • Implementation and Assessment of Culture Surveys and 360 Degree Reviews
  • Performance Management
  • Accountability Training
  • Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP)
  • Operational Excellence through Lean Six Sigma and 5S Practices
  • Strategic Planning
  • Best Practices with Monthly Management Process & Discipline by the Executive Team
  • Developing an International Strategy with a Focus on China

Marc Blackman President and CEO, Gold Eagle Company

BIS helped to instill the culture of Continuous Improvement in our employees and enabled us to build in quality and efficiencies that attracted large companies to do more business with us. The Maintenance training enabled our operators to do a great deal of Preventative Maintenance, thereby reducing our equipment downtime greatly. In 2009 we embarked on our Lean Manufacturing journey through the introduction of 5S techniques taught by BIS. The grant funding available greatly contributed to our ability to conduct training programs each and every year. Virtually every employee has benefited some way from the training we received from BIS. The instructors are excellent and the BIS administrators have been very professional to work with. Over these many years, we have continued to rely on them to help us with a variety of projects and we would not have been able to do as many without the grant funding, which is very important to Peacock.

Mike Bilder CEO, Peacock Engineering

Prior to working with BIS, our average annual growth was 4.95%. Utilizing their training and consulting services the past six years, our average annual growth rate has been a remarkable 11.5%. Due to this increased growth rate, we've added new jobs at a faster pace as well.

Al Powers Retired CEO and Ambassador, NOW Health

Please accept this letter with our highest possible recommendation for Illinois BIS. Grant funding has enabled our company to utilize BIS services and training throughout the years. The various training programs we have received from BIS include: APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), Blueprint Reading, English as a Second Language (ESL), Microsoft Excel, Internal Auditing, OSHA 10 Hour Program, Root Cause Analysis, Supervisory Development and Supply Chain Management, to mention a few.

The instructors at BIS knowledge and quality of training have been consistently superb and have served as a catalyst for increases in productivity, quality, teamwork, and has greatly improved our operating performance over the years. The funding BIS receives allows them to continue to provide a resource for excellent training. Being able to receive this training and receive government grants to reduce our costs allows us to spread the training out across our organization. Our partnership with BIS has made us a stronger company that is better able to survive in a competitive industry and struggling economy and we hope to continue this relationship for many years to come.

Greg Roskuszka President & Chief Manufacturing Officer, Magnet-Schultz of America

Electro-Motive Diesels (EMD) has partnered with Illinois BIS since 1983. Through training and hands-on consulting, we have had positive results too numerous to mention all. Some of the areas where we have benefitted are:

  • Quality Systems Development which led to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Certifications.

  • Process Documentation: Electro-Motive Diesels (EMD) has been able to implement a locomotive diesel engine remanufacturing program in under 6 months. The business has grown an additional 20% in the last 3 months. This has allowed EMD to create approximately 100 high paying hourly manufacturing jobs in the Chicago area.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt Training has enabled EMD to improve performance and reduce rework and costs in many areas of the operations.

  • Performance Measurements – EMD is improving the performance measurements to improve output and the efficiency of the operations. With the assistance of Illinois BIS, we have been able to upgrade the operation and increase output and measure the results.

  • Facilitation-Illinois BIS has been helpful in resolving issues between different departments within EMD. They have been the neutral party who has been able to break down barriers and improve communication throughout the organization.

Robert Rath & Vince Williamson Electro-Motive Diesels

Matthew's leadership was critical to us in assessing current market share, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and he facilitated our team in developing the global strategy for this critical and growing product segment. His knowledge, expertise and practical experience brought considerable value to this initiative. . . This initiative focused on strategies and tactics that will continue to make us competitive in a global marketplace. The results we expect are to grow a $15 million dollar product line to over $75 million dollars globally in five years. We believe that BIS's and Matthew's involvement has helped our company be competitive against foreign manufacturers of competitive technology and the results we have seen would not have been possible without his involvement.

Thomas S. Wujek Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, Flexco

This past fall we engaged the BIS team for a market research project on the Chinese rail tank car market. This project was a huge success and the BIS team was able to obtain the detailed market information needed to craft an entry strategy for the Chinese tank car market. A testament to the quality of work done is that the BIS team identified a sales opportunity during their research, and with the team’s assistance we negotiated a $140,000.00 contract to export products made in Skokie, Illinois to China for a local tank car manufacturer. The profit made on the contract more than paid for the research project and helped replace some of the business lost during the recent economic downturn. Also, were it not for the grant funding provided by the state, we would not have pursued this research project due to the prohibitive cost of for-profit firms.

An ongoing engagement with BIS has been a project to develop a culture of continuous improvement within Midland. With the help of a BIS project manager we have created 11 guiding principles for the business and we are in the process of training almost 50% of the work force on continuous improvement and problem solving tools. These continuous improvement specialists will train the remainder of the workforce and undertake projects to improve manufacturing efficiency and eliminate waste. Despite the pressure on earnings due to the economy we have continued to invest in our people because of the high quality and reasonable cost of BIS services.

Thomas E. Zant President, Midland Manufacturing

We have been working with Illinois BIS since 1998. They have created and led training programs in the areas of Quality, Leadership, Strategic Planning, ISO Certification, and quality tools such as Root Cause Analysis, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc. The grant funding programs they have offered were critical in our decisions to proceed with this training. During this period of time we have grown from $30,000,000 in sales to well over $100,000,000 today, and employment at Holland has grown consistent with that sales growth to the point where we currently employ over 500 people.

Philip C. Moeller President (Retired), Holland Company

John Pop has been a mentor and trainer to our efforts at Lean Manufacturing, helping this group to develop a visual cell approach to manufacturing, and several other changes to our manufacturing process that have had huge results. This particular group has improved their customer satisfaction rating from 40% to 80% in one year, and reduced the assembly time for a key component by 80 hours.

Debra Lynch Quality Manager, Holland Company

In 1990 Unytite started to manufacture high quality bolts and nuts to supply the Construction and Heavy Equipment Industries. Unytite expanded its manufacturing capabilities to expand in the Truck & Trailer, Automotive, Railroad, Motorcycle and ATV Industries in the USA. These products are produced and shipped from Unytite's facility located in Peru, Illinois. Our relationship with Illinois BIS goes back over 16 years. BIS provided the consulting and training that allowed Unytite to successfully achieve and maintain our certification to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. ISO 9001 is the International Quality Management Standard and ISO 14001 the International Environment Management System Standard/ The accreditations we continue to maintain today through BIS demonstrates our commitment to customer satisfaction and the environment of Illinois. In addition, BIS provided consulting and training in:

  • Advanced Product Quality Planning
  • Problem Solving
  • Lean Principles and 5S
  • Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED)

With BIS assistance Unytite improved its market, competitiveness and efficiency that resulted in increasing our employment from 30 in 1990 to a one-time high of 130. The grant funding availability is important to our company for the training and consulting services provided by BIS, as similar services are cost prohibitive from other organizations. BIS provides a service that is a key factor for our continued growth and success of Unytite Inc. Please give every consideration for the grant funding, as BIS is an important partner in our efforts to continue to provide jobs for the state of Illinois.

Chuck Hundley Operations Manager, Unytite Inc.

PCTEL began our lean journey in late 2006 by partnering with BIS to perform our initial lean assessment and subsequently conduct our first lean manufacturing pilot in our antenna assembly operation in Bloomingdale, Illinois. Since then, we have continued training our core lean team and our production leadership personnel on many of the lean manufacturing classes on offer from BIS which are summarized as follows:

  • Lean Simulation, 8 hours
  • Running a Lean Event, 8 hours
  • Visual Controls & 5S, 64 hours
  • Value Stream Mapping, 8 hours
  • Lean Facility and Cell Design, 32 hours
  • Error-Proofing (Poka-Yoke), 80 hours
  • Total Productive Maintenance, 8 hours

PCTEL has availed of some additional courses as well, including Six Sigma Black Belt, Supervisory Skills, and OSHA Safety Compliance that have greatly helped to elevate the skill and competency levels of our production personnel teams. To date, approximately 75% of our assembly operation has completed first pass lean with some highly impressive results:

  • Direct labor has improved by an average of 42%
  • Production lead times have been reduced by 70-80%
  • Work order processing has been reduced by 85%
  • Space utilization has improved by 24%
  • Our gross margin has improved by 3%
  • Increased OEM customer readiness

We will complete our first pass lean effort across the whole plant during the first half of 2010 and are currently expanding our lean initiative into our supply chain of domestic and international suppliers. Thereafter, we will complete a second pass lean within our Bloomingdale facility and continue learning PCTEL’s operation globally. Clearly, the involvement of BIS is critical to our current and future success. PCTEL’s lean progress to-date is in no small way indebted to BIS’s training and knowledge contributions as a vital partner to Illinois and domestic US manufacturing companies. On behalf of PCTEL, I wish to express our gratitude and look forward to our continuing partnership in years to come.

Jeff Miller Vice President/General Manager, PCTEL Antenna Products Group

Our relationship with Illinois BIS dates back to 2003 when we first were introduced to lean concepts. It began with me as well as several managers attending the lean certification program. These classes made us realize that there are many benefits tin creating a lean enterprise to remain competitive. It also helped us to realize that in order for us to be successful with our efforts, it would be necessary to empower our employees with the knowledge to not only participate, but to rather take ownership and lead some of our initiatives. In order for us to accomplish this goal, we enlisted Illinois BIS to provide us with an aggressive on-site lean training program for all of our employees in the first quarter of 2009. In addition, most recently, I attended your Six Sigma Green Belt certification program and found this to also be a very informative as well as inspirational experience. As a result, we would like to send others within our organization to attend the Black Belt program.

With the training and education we have received over the last few years we have seen many improvements made throughout the organization that have helped us to streamline our operations. Some of the benefits that we have realized are: 1) reduction in scrap on two of our product lines that resulted in a total annual savings of $88,000.00. 2) A 50% reduction in customer complaints 3) reduction in finished goods inventory levels and 4) reduction in raw material inventory levels. In our efforts for continuous improvement we are also working towards streamlining our foaming operation as well as reducing our set-up times.

SWD is a family-owned business celebrating 30 years of business in Illinois. We offer metal finishing, coating, and fastener sorting services to many different markets such as automotive, agricultural and heavy equipment, appliances, hand tools, and many others. Our relationship with BIS goes back over 10 years. BIS provided the consulting and training that allowed SWD to successfully achieve dual certification to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. ISO 9001 is the international quality management system standard and ISO 14001 the international environment standard. SWD Inc. was the first metal finisher in the USA to achieve a dual certification. The certifications, which we continue to maintain today, demonstrate our commitment to customer satisfaction and the environment of Illinois. In addition, BIS provided consulting and training in:

  • Strategic Planning
  • Leadership Training
  • Marketing Strategy
  • Problem Solving
  • Global Strategy

With BIS’ assistance, SWD Inc. has improved its market competitiveness and efficiency. BIS is an important partner as we continue to provide jobs in the state of Illinois.

Rick Delawder President, SWD Inc.

Acme Finishing has received training in Lean and quality process improvement and has improved our external ppm performance by 3500, saving $390,000 in rework costs. On another product we improved our external ppm performance by 675, saving $180,000 in rework costs. These savings make it possible for Acme Finishing to avert layoffs. We can honestly say that without Illinois BIS, our company would probably be out of business. They have helped us survive during recessions and helped us to be more competitive as well as helped us grow our business in Illinois. We could not afford this training without these grants.

Al ColellaQuality Assurance Manager, Acme Finishing

We used them to help us implement ISO 9000. They brought us step by step through the process. They challenged the way we had done business for over 80 years. There was for the first time clarity in how to run a business on a day to day basis: A way to set up rules and procedures that help a business grow from fighting daily fires to actually planning for all the little things that come up on any day in an organized and well thought out manner. We had a trainer come to our facility every week or two to work on a specific process... In three years time during the process we increased our profitability by three times. In the end we rebuilt our ailing company into a strong tax paying company with a bright future. We could not have made this transformation on our own.

Sue Knuepfer Peters Owner and President, General Engineering Works Inc.

[Our company] started to work with the Illinois BIS Team in early 2013 on a dual-track program of education focused on LEAN. One example of the outstanding outcomes from the LEAN tool training. In our Card Manufacturing department, several employee-led teams have been trained in and used the skills and tools taught by Illinois BIS to analyze key operational opportunities for improvement. Guided by the Illinois BIS Team, [our team] identified and proposed specific changes in our work-flow. In just one area, that team executed a change in work-flow which will save [us] over $50,000 each year. We have similar teams working and training with Illinois BIS throughout [our company] and are realizing significant savings and improvements to our business.

On the Culture, Leadership and Management side, the Illinois BIS team helped us construct a similar, “real-world” focused program. We identified several cross-functional teams where inter-departmental communications and cooperation are key to improving our Service Levels and where the teams were not always “playing well” together. Illinois BIS then designed a specific set of programs and facilitated a hands-on training program focused on identifying and resolving obstacles to the departments working well together and giving the team members tools and skill sets to address those issues. This has been highly successful. Although it is much harder to obtain hard metrics in areas such as this, we have seen marked improvements in inter-departmental functioning and our Service Levels – as measured specifically by on-time delivery to clients – have increased and are consistently above 95%

Overall, we have been very pleased with the results. The Illinois BIS Team and the programs that they are helping us to run at [our company] have been and continue to be instrumental in ensuring that [our company] is a thriving business – avoiding layoffs – and instead, is expanding, purchasing new equipment and adding employees. We believe that this is an outstanding investment by the DECO, Illinois BIS and [our company].

I attended the 15 day session for Six Sigma Training at USG’s Corporate Innovation Center as taught by Michael Pop. This was a very well received course by the 15 USG staff attendees. My personal experience was a timely one as I was able to incorporate the course tools into my current lab scale project work immediately. This translated to significant advantages in scale up opportunities at our manufacturing sites as related to a current new product effort. I wish to thank the Illinois BIS group, particularly Mike for the time and effort he gave us out here in Libertyville.

Michael P. Shake Principal Researcher, USG Corporation

I just wanted to reach out to you to let you know that with Illinois BIS’s help, for the fourth time we received no findings during our annual ISO14001 audit. We are the only company that our auditor is aware of that has not received any findings over a four year period. Illinois BIS has helped us from the beginning in setting up our program and training our employees in not only ISO but other areas as well. I was pleased to hear we are going to be able to continue to do business with your company, especially since the grant funding program is still in place after the recent changes. Thanks again for all of your efforts.

Mike Madsen, SPHR Director of Human Resources and Safety, Principal Manufacturing, Corp.

Training for Arrow Gear Company:
• Developed skill set to meet the quality, productivity and efficiency standards that are necessary for our Company to meet customer specifications and delivery requirements.
• Empowered employees to be critical thinkers with Continuous Improvement Training.
• Created a positive learning environment to meet the high precision work we perform.
These are all changes required to help us to retain current customers and attract new customers and meet our goals for growth.

Mary Ann Cervinka HR Manager, Arrow Gear Company

As a process specialist, prior to learning the six sigma methodologies, I was only able to make changes on the process based on feelings and what I saw at the time. I had no concrete data. I am now making decisions based off factual data. I now understand process variation and how to: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control it. I have set up numerous data collection plans tailored to copy and paste into Minitab. I have been able to analyze data real time, and have provided operators with updates daily on processes. The six sigma training is a real powerful set of tools that have made a real difference in my outlook on our processes. Taking this class is a "No Brainer" on whether to make the investment or not. I have made up the money spent on my training in less than 3 months. The classroom material is very thorough and the instructor provided excellent examples during class. I highly recommend this training for all of the companies that would like to save money by just tightening up process variation. All the tools necessary are quickly at your fingertips.

Rocko Vasko Six Sigma Process Specialist, MSC Walbridge Coatings

I have over my 12 years with Gold Eagle participated in many workshops conducted by the Illinois BIS team. Through my business career which spans over 43 years in both public and private enterprises, I strongly believe that the programs presented by Illinois BIS for Gold Eagle had the most significant and educational impact on me as a manager and team player. For example The Executive Team Building presentation conducted in June 2002 modified my behavior and attitude in dealing and working with top management, my peers and my direct reports. Throughout my adult business life I have always been a self starter and effected changes and results by doing it myself and/or not working with and through the system but rather going around it to achieve the desired outcome. As a result of this particular exercise, I learned that team play and participation through proper communication, trust building and conflict resolution not only realize the outcome more effectively, efficiently, quickly and positively but also at the same time builds a TEAM solidarity and an environment that fosters total team effort and cooperation with everyone feeling they were part and parcel of the accomplishment. The various facilitators are not text book consultants but rather individuals who themselves have experienced work environments and thus can share their own personal experiences and be able to relate and share their real world issues and opportunities. I highly endorse and support the many programs that Illinois BIS offers and encourage other companies to engage their expertise and services.

Richard S Schwab Vice President International, Gold Eagle Co.

We are pleased to inform you that our AS9100C audit has been successfully completed. We appreciate all of the assistance your staff has provided us over the past year in revamping our quality system and preparing for this audit. I would like to single out the Illinois BIS Instructor as being a guiding force in the creation and implementation of our revamped quality system and the resulting positive outcome in our audit. Without his extensive knowledge of the topic and effective methods of conveying it to my personnel, we would have struggled to attempt to get through an audit of any kind. We hope to maintain our relationship with your organization into the future to help us in our continuous improvement efforts. We will keep you informed of any future developments and look forward to carrying on our relationship into the future.

William D. Dowdakin Rockford I. D. Shop Inc.

Just wanted to make sure you knew how much we have appreciated your help. With all the joking and teasing that goes back and forth I thought it important to let you know. Once again we appreciate everything you have done to guide us through this process and we thank you for everything you have taught us. Until your next visit take care and be safe.

Thanks to WIA funding, Metropolitan Family Services is using Lean Six Sigma to reshape a vital human services agency to succeed in a fiscal climate that has forced dozens of its peers to cut jobs and eliminate services to low-income families who need them. While Metropolitan has expanded services and added over a hundred positions to meet this need, rapid growth has created new pressures for employees and stretched business systems to capacity. Grant funds have allowed Metropolitan to partner with Illinois BIS to make employees part of the solution. Since February (or November 2012), over 450 of Metropolitan's 850+ employees have completed rigorous training they are now using to streamline business processes and reduce the risk of burnout for over-stretched front-line human services professionals. Early wins include combining reporting procedures to cut duplication and allow clinical practitioners to focus on serving families, re-deploying human services staff to local sites to provide more efficient and effective service, and empowering front-line leaders to drive dozens of small, simple projects that add up to significant change. Lean Six Sigma is also helping drive agency wide projects to improve its technology, employee support and measurement systems to prepare for major landscape changes, such as the Affordable Care Act and the expansion of performance-based contracting through the state's "Budgeting for Results initiative.

Andrew WadeDirector of Government Affairs, Metropolitan Family Services

Thanks for everything. It’s been years since I completed my MBA so being the classroom setting was really enjoyable. Further, I felt like you were an incredible Instructor – compelling, knowledgeable, etc… So I can’t thank you enough for a truly great experience (especially with terrain that is not my forte or background). Happy to serve as a reference for you or for the program.

Cathleen A. Burden MPC Products

Incorporated a variety of theories and resources. Relevant to my industry. Instructor knowledgeable on subject matter and able to relate it to real world scenarios.

Andrew Allen ITW Shakeproof

The program is a must for this day and age. The instructor did an excellent job. She kept the group involved and incorporated the program topic into our mill issues.

Bob Dietel Futuremark Paper

I wanted to drop a line to say thanks for your coaching, teaching and influence over the past couple years. I’ve really learned a lot through your instruction

Bill Mikus Multipackaging Solutions

Since 1991, Illinois BIS has provided training to our company. From top management to supervisors to line leaders, we have all benefited from participating in workshops such as leadership, project management, OSHA compliance, Six Sigma, Time Management, Computer Skills, Lean Manufacturing, etc. Their instructors are the best. The costs are very competitive. The results always meet expectations. Illinois BIS has made a major difference at Gold Eagle.

Bob HirschChairman, Gold Eagle Co.

Great leadership and direction, concise, very informative.

Carlos Cordova Shure

The instructor was very helpful when people had difficult problems understanding. Very quick to bring what was in the material to actual situations that a lot of us could relate to.

Correana Armstrong Agri-Fab

This was an excellent class, very well instructed. Would highly recommend this program to other co-workers and friend. The instructor was one of the best I have had the pleasure of learning from.

Don Steele KSM Electronics

This program gives you an overall better understanding of why companies want to be ISO certified and why companies should be ISO certified. Instructor was very experienced and knowledgeable of topic and the questions that were asked were answered clearly.

Steve Morgan Plitek

I think the instructor was very good at covering as much as possible in the time we had. He had many real world examples that kept the class interesting, and had a talent for getting us to think about/apply what we were learning to our work situations. Great instructor!

Susan McGran Richardson Electronics

Very thorough with information. Presented info in an order that made sense. Instructor was able to make the environment entertaining while still conveying the message.

Tim O'Sullivan OSG Tap & Die

The Illinois BIS Instructor is incredibly knowledgeable and all questions and topics were covered in depth. I took away a lot from this class.

Timothy Brennan SWD

The Illinois BIS Instructor used many previous experiences to help us understand the subject/module. When people had questions his explanations were very clear. He is one of the best "non-technical" instructors I have had in 20+ years.

Tom Marek Gold Eagle

The Illinois BIS Instructor was a wonderful teacher. He is so patient, supportive, encouraging, and knowledgeable. He makes some very intense and difficult statistical concepts understandable and actually fun to learn. The class was geared toward actual work experiences. I can go back to work and apply a lot of what I learned in class.

Instructor effectively used real-world scenarios that made the training very enjoyable, personal as well as something that I can start using immediately.

Eddie Henderson ShopperTrak

Instructor kept the course very interactive. Most 4 hour "lectures" or training programs turn into battles with fighting off sleep. That was never an issue in this training course.

John Lentz Hydro-Gear

The Illinois BIS Lean Certification series is a good balance of the instructor's practical experience, class presentations, handout materials, and hands-on in the classroom. The series gave me the tools to develop and implement a Lean program that we use specifically for our company. I was able to put much of the information into immediate use. The logical sequence of classes kept the learning in perspective. The series was a good all-around Lean training course.

Dan McDonald Senior Corporate Engineer, Illinois Tool Works Technology Center

I just wanted to thank you again for an excellent educational experience! It was a great course and I really enjoyed your approach and techniques. You are very knowledgeable on the content, but what really made it excellent is that you have the practical experience of what really happens in industry. Thanks again!

Angelo Arcese Manager Quality Assurance, ElectroMotive

I cannot say enough great things about the Six Sigma Certification Program at Illinois BIS. It was the greatest educational experience of my life. The Illinois BIS Instructor is without question, the best educator I've ever come across. His subject knowledge, attention to detail and class room instruction is unequaled.

Vincent Williamson MBA, Electro-Motive Diesel

I initially took the Illinois BIS Black Belt classes to teach and develop the tools I needed in order to improve efficiency on our production lines. The coursework and instructor not only offered those skills, they added in a great deal of information on a more efficient BUSINESS, allowing me to find and improve inefficiencies in all parts of the job. The program taught me that nearly anything can be deemed a 'process' with the right definitions in place, and the tools necessary to improve that process are within reach.

Robert Gustine Six Sigma Process Engineer, Elk Grove Village, IL

I greatly appreciated my one on one coaching from the Illinois BIS Instructor. My goal was to be assertive in a positive way. I learned to apply principles that helped me establish and communicate "boundaries" in a professional and courteous manner. These boundaries apply to work, home and even for myself. Needless to say, I met my objective. Not only did the the training give me confidence, but it helped me to really enjoy my job.

A pharmaceutical firm in the Chicagoland Area executed a Six Sigma Project to improve certain processes in its facility. Application of Six Sigma methodologies, including the formation and facilitating of a formal Project Team, DMAIC process implementation, and follow-through to Project completion, resulted in stated Project goals being successfully attained. The processes saw marked improvement, and tangible savings of $100,000. annually were documented. The gains have been subsequently maintained. Many thanks to Illinois BIS for providing Six Sigma Black Belt training! The Illinois BIS Instructor provided outstanding instruction for the 4 Weeks of intensive training.

We have consulted with BIS regarding ISO implementation, internal auditing, leadership training, 5S training, and market research. The personnel in the BIS program are experts in their fields and their knowledge has made a huge impact on Acme Finishing.

Plitek benefited greatly from the recent training we received. The employees that took the training were able to have more job security in their jobs by understanding the need for better training to help them with advancement at Plitek. Our biggest success story is that one employee (after taking the training) felt he could really benefit Plitek by creating individual machine trainings designed specifically for machine operators. We had limited machine specific training in place; therefore he was able to train multiple groups on the correct procedures for running specific machines. Through the training he was able to create a new job for himself as he was advanced to training coordinator for the shop floor. This is a new position and a great asset to our training program. We now have specific trainings to help secure employees positions through correct training procedures. The new position created was a direct result of the realization of the need for better training.  All departments in production are benefitting from the trainings set up as a direct result of the training we received through the grant.
Thank you for providing us the resources to train our employees for a great future with our company.

Cheryl Hoffman Human Resources Manager, Plitek LLC

After completing the Six Sigma Class one of our relatively new supervisors was able to use the knowledge he gained right away.  He started by collecting data on the efficiency of a machine in our Grinding Department. He then used the MiniTab software to develop a histogram, which showed him discrepancy between the different shifts.  Looking into it he discovered the run rate was set lower on second shift.  By correcting this he was able to improve the overall efficiency for the department. We currently have six teams with graduates from the Greenbelt class leading them whose task is to improve problem areas throughout the company.  Any one of these projects will avert any layoffs by waste reduction or elimination.  Thus, improving our competitiveness in the market and our ability to gain new business.
